Mate, I did exactly that and it worked way better than I expected. I was worried it would look too much, but nah, the room actually feels cleaner because I stopped adding random pictures and decorations. I picked a design from peel and stick wall murals and kept the sofa, rug and curtains pretty basic. The whole thing just clicked. Even my friend who normally hates patterned walls admitted it looked pretty damn good. If you're thinking about going bold, I'd say start with one wall and let it do the work.
